Hello everyone!

This Week’s Playlist - Season 2, episode 7.

Another weekly playlist from a fellow Londoner musician. On top of the weekly 5 picks, Scott kindly picked up another 15 more songs so that’s our playlist for the week. I even made a playlist with all his picks to make it easier.

See you next week.

TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.

There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:

  • Spotify

  • Apple Music

  • Youtube Music

  • Tidal (coming soon)

  • Deezer (coming soon)

Guest of the week: Scott V

Hi, I’m Scott, a 32 year old full-time musician and currently in a band called Little Fireworks. We provide listeners with a tactful mix of loud and quiet moments, centred around our heart wrenching harmonies. Whilst the music is predominantly somber, a constant theme in production and lyrical content is one of hope. It is the flicker of light when all else is dark, a little firework some might say.

I’ve always been a fan of big guitars, huge soundscapes and massive crescendos so to be in a band and making that kind of music is a dream come true.

1. Explosions in the Sky - The Birth and Death of the Day

So we start huge here. One of the first instrumental bands I was into and this song, for me, is the epitome of what they do: epic guitar noises and massive drums that create the biggest walls of sound ever.

2. Biffy Clyro - Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies

By far Biffy are one of my favourite bands of all time so to pick one song out of their discography was hard. I went for ‘Living is a Problem...’ as this was on the cusp of when they were getting bigger commercially so this is a good mix of their old and new stuff. It’s clever, it’s big, it’s epic - just listen to it.

3. Iggy Pop - Real Wild Child

Going old school now. This song is simply really nostalgic for me. I always think of car journeys with my dad when I was young and it’s my go to song to put on at a party. You can’t not dance to it!

4. Andrew Belle - Spectrum

This is the song I’m listening to on repeat at the moment. I love the simple beat/electronic production behind it but it's also just a banger that’s really sad so it’s well up my street.

5. Frightened Rabbit - Keep Yourself Warm

I had to include Frightened Rabbit as they too are one of my favourite bands. They don’t exist anymore due to the lead singer, Scott, sadly committing suicide. I was very lucky to see their last show in London and this is the song that got me into them back in 2008. RIP Scott, you sad but beautiful son of a bitch.
